DAC has presented Dufferin County students with the Anne Laurier Scholarship for almost 30 years. This award is given to Grade 12 students going on to study the arts at a post secondary program, including but not limited to Colleges and Universities across Canada.
Since 1996, the Dufferin Arts Council has awarded over $140,000 in scholarships via the Anne Laurier Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are awarded to Grade 12 students, who are residents of Dufferin County, and who are going to College or University to study in the Arts.
Each year, three or four $3,000 scholarships are awarded. Qualifying arts streams include:
- Visual: Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Textiles, Graphic Design, Print Making, Architecture, Film Development
- Literary: Creative Writing, English Literature, Books & Media, Journalism, Advertising, Media Studies, Professional Writing, Screen Writing
- Performing: Drama, Music, Composition, Production & Design, Comedy, Theatre, Film Development, Dance

Our 2025 Winners!
Each recipient was required to fill out an application as well as submit a portfolio of their work. The portfolios were reviewed by art professionals in a variety of arts careers. From the application reviewers: “It was an honour and a delight to participate in reviewing these talented young people. These 4 students will be successful no matter what direction they choose. This has been a truly rewarding experience.”
Hanubae Carlos-Cummings
A student of ODSS, she has been actively volunteering in the arts sector in our community for years through Orangeville Library and Theatre Orangeville. As an active supporter of storytelling, Hanubae is planning a career in journalism via her studies at Carleton University. She received the highest recommendation given in her letter of reference. Wishing you every success in your future!
Daniel Milone
Daniel’s talents span a wide variety of activities from being a musician in piano and trumpet (and being in the Westside Secondary School concert band), to also excelling as a competitive swimmer and downhill ski instructor. His contributions are many and his dedication to music will continue no matter what his career path. Good luck with your studies at Wilfrid Laurier!
Taras Petryk
A resident of Mono and a graduate of ODSS, Taras impressed the review team with his music portfolio. He achieved his goal of releasing his first album before his 16th birthday. “My Mother is an Ocean” is his album containing 11 original pieces and is available on Spotify, Apple music, Youtube, etc. He plays a variety of instruments and has been featured at the Collingwood Music Festival and in several music initiatives at school. Taras has a bright future ahead of him. Best wishes for your studies at Concordia!
Adelaide Sebben
A graduate of Westside, Adelaide has received the honour of being accepted into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. “Her portfolio was joyous” said Chair and former dance instructor Catherine Carpenko. Her submitted dance pieces were inspirational, and we suspect an amazing dance career awaits wherever she lands. Knock ‘em over in New York, Adelaide!
Scholarship Details
- Value
The program consists of three (3) one-time scholarships worth $3000.00 each.
- Eligibility
The applicant must be a resident of Dufferin County, be graduating in the current year, be accepted to a recognized post-secondary institution.
- To apply
Completed applications must include the following information.
- Completed application form including an essay of no more than 500 words.
- Transcripts from grades 12
- Letter of reference preferably from a current teacher in the relevant discipline
- Proof of admission to post-secondary institution of the project
- Portfolio appropriate to the discipline
- Deadline
Completed applications must be received by the deadline of May 30th.
- Selection
Completed applications will be reviewed by the selection committee. Successful applicants will be notified by the final Friday in August. In early September cheques will be deposited to the students’ accounts at the post-secondary institutions in which they are enrolled.
