Since Michael McCreary was celebrated in In The Hills as one of “25 under 25” local young people to watch, the self-described “AspieComic” has toured widely in Canada and the U.S.. Now Dufferin Arts Council is thrilled to be welcoming Michael and his wry wit home for an evening of comedy at the Orangeville Opera House on September 20.
Michael is an autistic comedian, actor, author and TEDX speaker who has been performing stand-up comedy and keynote addresses since age 13. Over the past 10 years, he has performed in every province in Canada – plus the Yukon – and across the United States.
Michael has been featured on The National and on CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud! And he has had roles in two TV series.
In 2016, Michael was the featured comic in Commander Chris Hadfield’s Generator show in Toronto. In 2022, he was part of the closing gala at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival for CBC. And in 2024, he performed in the All Access show at the Halifax Comedy Festival for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for “Best Writing, Variety or Sketch Comedy.”
Throughout, Michael has been an advocate for autism awareness and has spoken and performed for autism organizations, corporations and universities across North America.
“Funny, You Don’t Look Autistic” is a stage play based on Michael’s 2019 award-winning book of the same title.
