Join us for a one-of-a-kind analog film workshop session where you’ll scratch, paint, and collage directly onto 16mm film to create your own short animation. Perfect for beginners, emerging artists, and anyone looking to explore hands-on, non-digital animation techniques.
Experience the unique magic of working with analog film through 16mm direct animations! Create your very own colourful, flashy, and fun stop-motion film using physical animation processes. Participants will be able to engage in analog filmmaking that would not otherwise be possible without an expensive camera or dangerous developing chemicals. Participants will be taught an array of direct animation techniques to scratch, paint, draw, and colour on their film strip, and receive pieces of black, clear, and scrap film to create their own 15-30 second mini animation. Completed film strips will be given to the instructor at the end of the session to be scanned and to make your animations come to life!
You’ll walk away with skills in experimental film techniques, and after the film has been scanned, a 15-30 second analog animation and a digital copy of your finished piece. Please allow for 1-2 weeks for scanning and editing, and then share your creation with family and friends!
