I have been a Japanese Brushstroke (sumi-e) artist for 50 years.
My work is treasured in collections world-wide.
I teach sumi-e and have written a book on how to paint in this medium, “The Brush Dances”, which is available anywhere on a print-on-demand basis in print and e-book formats.
I paint primarily nature – birds, animals, plants, landscapes – using mainly inkstick and brush but may add colour using Japanese pure pigment watercolours.
My ink (sumi), inkstick (suzuri), brushes (fude) and paper (washi) are handmade.
I also make many of my brushes and hand-carve my hanko or name stamps from rock using steel tools.
